On David Lynch's Espresso Machines
For paid subscribers: Was David Lynch a coffee bro?

On June 18th, a trove of memorabilia from the archive of David Lynch will go up for auction. In among the scripts, the incredible furniture, and the woodshop tools, there is a bunch of coffee equipment. Coffee makers, grinders, vintage cups—and three La Marzocco GS/3 espresso machines.
Lynch died this past January aged 78, after several years battling emphysema. He was an astonishing creative soul, not just a filmmaker but also a painter and even a singer—you can hear him on the songs Star Eyes (I Can’t Catch It) and the eponymous title track from the wonderful album Dark Night of the Soul by Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse.
He also, famously, loved coffee. Sprudge has written about this love many times, but watch almost any of his films (or Twin Peaks) and that appreciation becomes obvious. Lynch even had his own coffee brand for a time. In a piece for Huffpost in 2012, Lynch described his approach to coffee with the now-classic line, “Even bad coffee is better than no coffee at all”.
